ERTDU

Genesis: From Vision to Reality

The ERTDU was born from a simple yet profound realization: Great schools are built by great teachers, and great teachers are forged through continuous, research-driven professional growth. In 2018, under the leadership of Mr. Lei Brouns and Mr. Meru, the present secretary and with seed funding from the Rural Institute for Community Education (RICE), the Unit was established with a dual mandate—to research innovative teaching methodologies and to train faculty in their effective implementation. The founding team—comprising senior educators, child psychologists, and curriculum specialists—set an ambitious goal: to make MMS a model of 21st-century pedagogy while staying rooted in its 26-year tradition of child-centric education. The Unit began small, with in-house workshops on project-based learning and formative assessment, but its impact was immediate. Within the first year, teacher retention improved by 18%, and student engagement scores rose significantly, as reported in internal audits.
